Stuffed Set Of Boxing Squirrels Sell For $70,000.00

A TKO in my opinion.

These sets of taxidermied squirrels have seen a lot of history though.  They were first shown in The Great Exhibition in October 1851.

Consisting of four cases, The Fight shows two squirrels in various stages of a boxing match until the squirrel on the right is knocked out. A similar set of five pieces was bought by Lord and Lady Bangor and is displayed in Castle Ward, Country Down, Northern Ireland.

The set that was auctioned had found it's way to Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

"When the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. decided to relocate its Akron headquarters last fall, it fell to Cleveland-based auctioneer Rachel Davis to sell all the decor the company didn’t want to move. It was artwork, mostly: paintings, prints and an extensive map collection."

The set was broke into four separate pieces to be auctioned off separately,  but one bidder just had to have them all.  Read the whole story of why he did it over at THE WASHINGTON POST
